Mr & Mrs Mahi’s ‘Dekhha Tenu’ song launch: “Rajkummar Rao has the hunger of a first-timer and the skills of a LEGEND; 100 years later, when people talk about Indian cinema, Rajkummar’s name is going to be up there” – Sharan Sharma

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the news that a part of the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham(2001) song, ‘Say Shava Shava’, has been recreated for Mr & Mrs Mahi. The recreated version, ‘Dekhha Tenu’, was released today in a multiplex in Mumbai in the presence of Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, director Sharan Sharma and others. During the question-and-answer round with the media, Sharan Sharma spoke highly of his lead actors.

When asked why the director signed them, Janhvi Kapoor joked, “Maine toh option hi nahin diya inhe!” Sharan Sharma answered, “Rajkummar and Janhvi are the best fit for Mahendra and Mahima. I can’t see anyone else playing these roles.”

Sharan then spoke highly of his lead actor, “Rajkummar is a lethal actor because he has the hunger of a first-timer and the skills of a legend. This is a very rare combination. Hence, I am blessed to have had a chance to work with Rajkummar in my second film. It’s fair to say that he’s one of the greatest actors of all time in Indian cinema. Hits, flops and blockbusters will come and go for everybody. 100 years from now, when people talk about Indian cinema, Rajkummar’s name is going to be up there! Hence, we are blessed that he’s a part of this film.” As expected, there was applause in the auditorium while Rajkummar was humbled by the words of Sharan.

Sharan Sharma continued, “Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl (2020) was my first film and Janhvi was my rock and partner from start to finish. She discussed each and everything with me. It was like a proper partnership. In fact, during the making of Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl, I had bounced off the basic idea of Mr & Mrs Mahi with Janhvi. I am so happy that she played the role of Mahima. I think I pushed her very, very hard to get the level of cricketing needed for this film. For me, cricket is life and life is cricket. So, when I got the chance to play cricket, it was important for me that when I sleep at night, I am at peace thinking ki ‘koi cringe wala shot nahin shoot kiya aaj’. Hence, we pushed her very hard and she endured the torture. Of course, the audience will give its verdict but the cricket fan in me is thrilled with what she has done in the movie.”

Mr & Mrs Mahi releases in cinemas on May 31.
